Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education

Purpose of the Standards

The standards aim to:

Ensure that accredited continuing education is scientifically accurate, balanced, and evidence-based.
Serve the best interests of patients, the medical profession, and the public.
Guarantee that learners receive education that promotes safe, effective and cost-conscious clinical care.
Create a firm and transparent separation between education and marketing, promotion, or commercial interests.

These principles reflect best practices as endorsed by leading international accreditation authorities in continuing medical education.

Educational content must reflect current scientific evidence, adhere to clinical guidelines, and exclude any material that promotes unproven, unsafe, or ineffective practices.
All clinical recommendations must be balanced, include a discussion of risks and benefits and avoid exaggerating any one treatment approach.

Accredited content must be free from commercial promotion.
No content or format should be influenced by the interests of companies producing or selling medical products or services.
Logos, trade names, or product mentions are prohibited in educational materials.

All individuals involved in content development must disclose relevant financial relationships from the past 24 months.
EACCP is responsible for reviewing, mitigating, and documenting any potential conflicts of interest before education is delivered.
Disclosure of relationships must be transparent and communicated to learners.

EACCP does not accept commercial support from ineligible companies.
If any sponsorship or funding is involved (e.g., from public health institutions), it must be unrestricted, declared and non-promotional.
Financial contributions cannot influence content, speaker selection, or learner eligibility.

Any additional activities (e.g., product demonstrations, industry exhibits, or networking events) held in conjunction with EACCP-accredited education must be:

- Physically and temporally separate from the education itself;
- Clearly identified as non-accredited;
- Not a condition for receiving credit or participation.
